About Kessel Run

Meaning behind the name: For those of you who are Star Wars fans, hopefully, you already get the reference! For those of you who do not, The"Kessel Run" was one of the most heavily used smuggling routes in the star wars extended universe. Han Solo claimed that his Millennium Falcon "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs". (A parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship's speed when he made this claim, but rather his skill as a pilot.). Yes. Yes, this is very nerdy.

I struggled for a long time when choosing a name. Ultimately I kept coming back to star wars. Star wars was a huge part of my childhood, it brought me a lot of joy reading every book about the extended universe that I could get my hands on. In addition to that, both of my foundation girls have sci-fi-themed names. The younger of the two "Jaina" is actually named after one of Han Solo's 3 kids in the extended universe. I had a few other ideas but kept circling back to this one. It also has a nice ring to it, and Kessel Run Icelandic Sheepdogs also spells the first 4 letters of my name "KRIS". A Funny coincidence to be sure. It may seem silly but that's the story!

About Me

My name is Kristine Hynes, I have been involved in dogs for over 10 years, I started out in dog 4H as a teenager. Unlike all the other kids who preferred agility, I instantly developed a love of conformation showing. I showed my family's little mixed breed and was eager to learn the ins and outs of the show world. I purchased my first real show dog at 16, after 4 years of saving my money and choosing the perfect breed for me I ended up bringing home Kiiya. She is an Alaskan Klee Kai, and is the dog responsible for teaching me about dog ownership, and training. We did 4H and Juniors. She loved showing as much as I did. My show dreams came to an end when she ended up having a heart problem that required me to spay her. She taught me a lot about what I need in a dog, the most important being friendly, trainable, able to be off-leash, and with a good "off switch". So I began searching for a new breed. I stumbled across Icelandic Sheepdogs one day at a dog show. The more I learned about them the more I realized they were the perfect breed for me. A medium-sized dog with the spitz look that I love in a friendly and biddable package. I was hooked and brought home my first Icelandic named Inara a few years later. And the rest is history! I truly am passionate about well-bred dogs, and dog conformation, structure, and what it takes to preserve a breed. If you want to talk dogs don't hesitate to contact me!

My Program Goals

First and foremost all my dogs are family pets, they live in my home, and sleep in my bed every night. At the end of the day, I want to breed dogs that are easy to live with, able to do the job they were originally bred for, able to do various dog sports, and still competitive in the breed ring. Temperament is very important to me, an icie should be social and confident. I strive to preserve these characteristics while breeding dogs that have correct conformation and strong breed type. My icies go from the breed ring to performance events, to my home and need to adapt to all these with ease.

This is the spark notes version, but I'm happy to discuss my program and goals more in-depth with anyone, so don't hesitate to ask! I also love meeting up with anyone interested in learning more about the breed, meeting my dogs in person OR if the distance is an issue, I am usually able to coordinate a meetup with an Icelandic Sheepdog local to you. I can be contacted on Facebook or Instagram messenger, or via email, or the contact page on this site!
